Blended manufacturing outsourcing
Blended manufacturing outsourcing™ is a business model developed by us, to enable our customers reap the maximum benefits from outsourcing their manufacturing and supply chain, whilst minimising their risks.
Unless you are manufacturing high volumes, with a stable unchanging product, it is unlikely that outsourcing the entire production of all your products to a single offshore location will be cost effective, or easy to manage.
Our blended outsourcing enables us, in partnership with our customers, to find the optimum mix of a range of manufacturing and supply sources that is most effective for each particular business.
We offer the following “blend” of sources (hence blended outsourcing):
- Off shore – a distant overseas manufacturer in say China, India or Malaysia; for example manufacturing volume a standard pcb or supplying some components
- Near shore – Using manufacturing in another European country such as Poland; for example to make cable looms or metalwork for cases
- On shore – specialist services in the UK; for example electroplating or custom coil winding
- In house – using our own in house experts; for say specific manufacturing, final configuration and test.
Each product may have a different combination of the above to match the most effective way to meet the customer requirements. The mix can also evolve over time as product volumes and sources develop, avoiding the need to commit to a single source.
By using blended outsourcing you get:
- The most cost effective source for each component part
- No commitment to single offshore manufacturer for long term
- Being able to rely on a UK contact point to manage the entire process – both local and offshore
- which in turn means you can focus on your main business activities such as sales and product development.
The final advantage for our customers is that they can take advantage of all this is within the blended model, with just a single point of contact at our headquarters in the UK. No having to travel to, or deal with, overseas locations, we take care of it all.
At Rustons we introduced the Blended Manufacturing Outsourcing™ model to the UK and it has proven very effective for many of our customers. See our customers page for a couple of case studies.
If you have been thinking about outsourcing (or already do it but aren’t getting the benefits you were expecting), then do contact us to discuss how blended outsourcing can benefit you.
